Light Induced Electroless Silver for Silicon Cell Efficiency Gain

Conventional screened silver paste is well-established, but leaves room for improvement - literally. Deposition of solid silver within the sintered paste reduces the bulk resistivity and allows improved conductivity with thinner busbars and fingers. Overall efficiency can be increased by 0.3-1.0% with this fast, non-contact electroless silver process. With a small allocation of footprint in an existing PV manufacturing location, the efficiency increase is a low-risk way to lower your cost per watt in the near-term.

Cell samples 005.jpg(Yilan, Taiwan, June 19, 2012) —Sunrise Global Solar Energy Co. Ltd. (Sunrise) has recently achieved a breakthrough for industrial grade p-type Cz solar cells. A peak efficiency of 19.65% was achieved in pilot production by combining Sunrise’s advanced fabrication techniques and a special plating method. The plating technology is using Light Induced Electroless Plating (LIEP) chemicals developed by MacDermid Photovoltaic Solutions (MacDermid). Click here to read more.
